Are you at a constant battle with yourself when it comes to working out? Maybe you find yourself feeling self-conscious of what people around you are thinking and start to lose motivation.

It’s hard, I get it. We can be our own worst enemy at times. It can be tiring, that constant mental battle we go through. Once a 5k run used to be a great achievement, but now if we don’t run as far or as fast, we have failed. Whatever your reason, if you are looking to make a change in your mindset to improve your performance, then I can help you.

You might be asking how can hypnotherapy help with sport performance? We all know that to be a successful athlete we need a high level of physical fitness- but we can sometimes ignore how much performance is to do with our mental ability. Hypnotherapy can be very helpful for creating new habits, that can have a positive impact on training and performance. We can also become more in tune with our body- listening to when we need to stop and removing any built-up pressure and tension. It is also a great tool to support recovery from injury, especially as injuries tend to fuel negative feeling and frustration which can hold back our recovery time. Hypnotherapy aims to enhance focus, reduce anxiety, and improve mental resilience. The theory behind sports hypnosis is that relaxation is key to improved sporting performance by reducing stress chemicals to bring the body back to balance. It allows you to achieve that winning mindset by promoting self-belief and the ability to visualise success. How many times have you limited yourself on what you think you can achieve? Well, now is the time to stop!

Hi, my name is Beckie, and before working with me many of my clients felt stuck and held back from their potential. They might have signed up to an event, and felt themselves crumbling with the pressure, or the worry that they can’t complete it. Some felt that the enjoyment of the sport they once loved was starting to go, as it was feeling more like a chore. It doesn’t have to be this way; I truly believe that everyone can make the changes that they want to make.

It can feel impossible at times, like we are at a constant battle with ourselves. Things can become habitual- so that feeling off putting our running trainers on can be associated with a feeling of dread, the pressure can feel too much. So, each time we have this feeling, we end up reinforcing it and that means we want to avoid itWe can start to make excuses and tell ourselves that we will do it tomorrow instead.

Achieving our goals and breaking these habits doesn’t have to feel impossible. We just need to work in a way that works with us, and not against us. A way that focuses on solutions and moving forward, and that’s where hypnotherapy is extremely powerful. Hypnotherapy is a gentle process; it’s done in a way which creates lasting results and doesn’t put any superficial plasters over wounds. We use baby steps, to work with our unconscious brain (the part that keeps us safe and stores every experience we’ve had). This allows us to create a new neural pathway that is in align with our goals.

I am a Gold Standard Therapist, which means my clients are firmly at the centre of my therapy business. I don’t use off the shelf materials; I prepare individual treatment plans and personalised sessions to help you work towards your goal. It’s important for me to continually develop my knowledge and skillset, not only so I have more than enough tools in my toolbox to help you achieve your goals in the most effective way. But also, so I can give you a greater variety of techniques to continue to use after our work together has finished.

The Sports Therapy Clinic - Morley, massage treatment room

I was once that person asking- ‘what is hypnotherapy?’. I didn’t know anything about it, my only knowledge was what I saw on TV, which seemed very staged. However, when I began to understand the science behind it and how our minds worked, I knew that this was something I wanted to learn more about. It was like a light bulb moment for me, it made sense. I first encountered hypnotherapy when studying to be a counsellor, my first year consisted of hypnotherapy which was initially something I was not interested in, as I thought hypnotherapy was spiritual and a bit of a gimmick. I couldn’t have been more wrong, and I fell in love with it. I saw the changes that people could achieve and realised that this was the therapy that I wanted to train in, and I enhanced my skills and knowledge.

It explained why we do what we do- even sometimes when it’s not helpful such as keep hold of pain, smoke, or worry. These are things we learn, and they become habitual, but it’s our bodies way of keeping us safe. Once I was able to understand this, I was able to look at things from a different perspective and realised a lot of things we do that were originally serving a purpose, we can later begin to outgrow. After all, we deal with things in the best way we know at the time.

TSTC - Waiting room

It also made me realise we have a lot more control over ourselves than I originally thought the key is having an understanding on how to approach these situations. This the beauty of hypnotherapy when compared to other therapies because it focuses on the positive solutions rather than the negativity of a problem. I look forward to helping you achieve your goals.
